Forging Sector Unity

On April 19th 2023, Australians for Mental Health convened a meeting of representatives from organisations right across the mental health sector, at a Symposium hosted by University of Sydney.

A Shared Agenda for Mental Health Care Reform

Most of us agree that Australia’s Mental Health system needs reform, but one of the key challenges advocates face is speaking to Government with a single voice, and presenting a cohesive picture of what the sector is calling for.

This is why on April 19th 2023, we convened representatives from organisations right across the mental health sector, at a symposium hosted by University of Sydney.

Facilitated by Vice Chancellor Mark Scott, the aim of the session was to take a broad look at the issues facing mental health services in this country, and work on building this shared agenda for reform.

If you missed it and want to catch up on the discussion, we’ve made a zoom recording available here.

With such a diverse set of perspectives, forging a set of common goals is a huge challenge and we’re pleased to play a part in this process.

Of course, with the size and complexity of the challenges facing the sector, this will need to be a continuing discussion, and we’re looking forward to playing an ongoing role in facilitating this.

How Australia safeguards the community’s mental health into the future is a huge challenge and should be a major priority for any Australian Government, and we’re excited to make a contribution to this crucial national discussion.
