Associate Professor
Amanda Tattersall is an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and is a well-recognised social change researcher and community organiser. She co-founded GetUp.org.au, brought community organising to Australia by founding the Sydney Alliance (Australia’s largest civil society coalition of community organisations, unions and religious organisations), and for nine years has hosted the ChangeMakers Podcast which tells stories of people from around the world making the world a better place. At the University she is one of the country’s leading community-led researchers, using community engaged methods to research and impact social change strategy, climate change transition and our understanding of mental health. Her ChangeMakers Podcast (which has over 1.8 million downloads over 9 seasons) was created to share stories about people changing the world. Amanda is the author of Power in Coalition (Cornell), People Power in Cities (Oxford, forthcoming late 2025) and Conscious Tribes (Hardie Grant, forthcoming 2026), all of which speak to the art of collaboration and social impact. Amanda speaks and writes regularly about her experiences of living with bipolar, and in 2022 she initiated a research-action project with the Sydney Alliance called Neurality about the public dimensions of mental health.
