Dr Stephen Carbone MBBS, MPH

Dr Stephen Carbone MBBS, MPH, is the Founder and former CEO of Prevention United, a mental health promotion charity focused on promoting mental wellbeing and preventing mental health conditions across the lifespan.

Now working as a freelance consultant, Stephen’s career included working as a GP in Melbourne’s Northwest suburbs and as a medical officer in Victoria’s mental healthcare system. He also held senior roles in mental health policy, service planning and development, and research and evaluation in the Victoria Government Department of Health and Human Services, Orygen Youth Health, headspace, and Beyond Blue. While Stephen spent much of his career working to improve the supports and services available for people experiencing mental health challenges, in the latter part of his career he shifted his focus ‘upstream’ and became a leader in mental health promotion and preventive mental health advocating for greater action and investment in tackling the root causes of mental ill-health and creating more mentally healthy home, school, work and community environments.
